Winning the War on Terror

Winning the War on Terror

1 Peter 5:8-9

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:  9  Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.

Often times when we hear of the war on terror we immediately think of Al-Qaeda and fundamental Muslim extremist. That is certainly a real threat and one that must be taken seriously. But there is an even more sinister terrorist than Osama Bin Laden or Abu Musawi Al-Zarkawi.

The bible is clear that Satan is a terrorist. He is a much greater threat to civilization than Muslim terrorists could ever hope to be. 1 Peter 5:8 states that the devil is the adversary of the Christian who walks about seeking whom he may devour. The bible is also clear that the Devil is a liar and the father of it (John 8:44). His terror is not based in truth but in perversion of the truth. He strikes fear by terrorizing our mind and emotions with false reality. In the book of Revelation Satan is called the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10).

To win the war on terrorism we must take heed to the truth of God’s Word. Those who have placed their trust in Christ must not allow themselves to be terrorized by the world, flesh and the devil. We no longer have to fear (2 Timohty1:7) because we are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37) and nothing shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:39).

Therefore be sober and vigilant because Satan has been charged and convicted but he is still waiting to serve his sentence in the Lake of fire!  If you see him he will be armed and dangerous with misleading applications of scriptures and subtle accusations against God and his people. His goal is to destroy anything which brings Glory to God and convince you that there is another way to be righteous outside of a relationship with Christ! Please do not try to apprehend him by yourself, turn him over to the authority (2 Peter 2:11, Jude 1:9).

We have nothing to fear because there is nothing more powerful than the love of God. It is good to watch and be aware of threats that could harm you spiritually and physically but the Christian must stand out in a world of uncertainty as those with complete confidence in the security we have in Christ. We serve a mighty God and we have a greater fear than even the terror tactics of the devil.

The terror of knowing many will face an eternity separated from God in Hell should be the most terrifying thing we can imagine. Jesus warns the multitude following him in Matthew 10:28 not to fear those who can harm them or put them to death physically but the authority that can cast a soul in to hell for all eternity.

It is amazes me that in a world that fears almost everything, very few people fear God. There is no greater love than the love that delivers a soul from Hell and no greater fear than rejecting the gift of eternal life offered so freely by God. Let’s make a commitment together to love God more than we fear people or circumstances.
